October 31 : 8 hr Bottom and Livebait

### Captain's Log: October 31st – A Special Day of Fishing for a Retired Veteran

On October 31st, I had the honor of taking David, a retired veteran, out for a memorable day of fishing aboard the Onslow Bay. With ideal weather conditions—clear skies and calm seas—the stage was set for an exciting adventure on the water. Our plan for the day included catching a limit of king mackerel before transitioning to bottom fishing with David's electric reel.

#### Setting Off

As David boarded the boat, it was clear that his enthusiasm was infectious. After a brief introduction and overview of the day’s itinerary, we loaded up with gear and fresh live bait, ready to hit the open water. With everything in place, we set off, eager to make the most of this special day.

#### First Stop: Targeting King Mackerel

Once we reached our first fishing spot, I explained our strategy for targeting king mackerel using live bait. The excitement built as we set our lines in the water. Almost immediately, we began hooking into king mackerel!

The action was fast and furious, and David was thrilled to be part of the excitement. With every hook-up, we celebrated as we reeled in one king after another. The camaraderie onboard was fantastic, with everyone sharing tips and cheering each other on.

Before long, we had filled our cooler and reached our limit on king mackerel. David was particularly delighted, and we took a moment to capture the day with photos, showcasing our impressive haul.

#### Transitioning to Bottom Fishing

With our king mackerel limit secured, it was time to switch gears and utilize David's electric reel for some bottom fishing. We moved to a nearby location known for its productive bottom fishing grounds. I guided David on how to set up his electric reel, and we sent our lines down to the depths.

David was excited to use his electric reel, and the anticipation on board was palpable. It didn’t take long before we felt the familiar tug of a fish on the line. David eagerly engaged his reel, and we all watched in excitement as he battled a solid catch from the bottom.

#### Wrapping Up the Day

As our 8-hour adventure came to a close, we headed back to the marina, the sun beginning to set in a spectacular display of colors. David left with a cooler full of king mackerel and bottom fish, along with memories of an unforgettable day on the water.

Reflecting on the trip, I felt deeply honored to have spent the day with David. It was a reminder of the joys of fishing and the connections we make along the way.

If you’re looking for a fantastic fishing experience, whether you’re a seasoned angler or just starting, I invite you to join me aboard the Onslow Bay. There’s always an adventure waiting just beyond the horizon! 🎣🌊✨
