MEET THE CAPTAIN
Captain John operates fishing trips from Cedar Point and Morehead City (seasonally) aboard a 26’ Pathfinder or 27' Onslow Bay. With over 20 years of fishing experience on the Crystal Coast and professional experience spanning the entire East Coast, Captain John is well-equipped to target a wide variety of fish.

Beginning his career as a mate, he eventually pursued higher education, earning an MBA in 2022. After a year of contemplation about his career path, he decided to follow his passion and become a captain. Since then, he has been leading his Fishing Charters and captaining numerous other boats.
OUR INSHORE VESSEL
Captain John operates a meticulously maintained 26'2" Pathfinder HPS boat, built by the reputable Maverick Boat Group in 2014. This vessel is powered by a robust 2014 Yamaha 300 HP 4-Stroke motor, ensuring both reliability and performance on the water. Equipped with state-of-the-art Garmin electronics and upper station controls, the boat is designed to navigate efficiently and locate prime fishing spots. With a center console layout, it offers ample space and comfort, accommodating up to 6 clients for an exceptional fishing experience. Captain John’s expertise, combined with this well-appointed vessel, guarantees a successful and enjoyable outing on the Crystal Coast.
OUR OFFSHORE VESSEL
Captain John operates a meticulously maintained 27' Onslow Bay boat, built by the reputable Onslow Bay Boat Works in 2010. This vessel is powered by Twin Super Charged 2016 Mercury 350 HP 4-Stroke motors, ensuring both reliability and performance on the water. Equipped with state-of-the-art Garmin electronics, the boat is designed to navigate efficiently and locate prime fishing spots offshore in all weather conditions. With a center console layout, it offers ample space and comfort, accommodating up to 4 clients for an unforgettable fishing experience. Captain John’s expertise, combined with this well-appointed vessel, guarantees a successful and enjoyable outing in the Deep Blue off of the Crystal Coast.
Meet the Mate
Martin Gardner
Martin Gardner is the First Mate of Southern Voyage Fishing Charters. He is a graduate of East Carolina University with a dual degree in biology and entrepreneurship. Martin has over two decades of experience reeling in dreams, and he is ready to navigate all waters to make your experience one that will have you hooked for life.
Martin is the owner of "The Onslow" you will be boarding. Martin states that the ability to own an Onslow Bay is what I would call the "Sovereign Will". He states that "I was blessed to have worked for Onslow Bay Boatworks and build a connection of possibilities where I had previously had been told would never happen". Martin is a dedicated saltwater waterman, his mission is to inspire, adventure, and cultivate a profound connection with the ocean and the life within it. He has an unwavering commitment to safety and sustainability. Martin likes to help guide the guests through breathtaking marine landscapes, sharing knowledge of the seas while fostering an appreciation for our planet's waters and the marine life it holds.
