### Captain's Log: July 31st – Nearshore Live Bait Adventure

On July 31st, I set out for an exhilarating six-hour nearshore fishing trip that promised excitement and bountiful catches. The weather was ideal—clear skies, a gentle breeze, and calm waters—perfect for targeting king mackerel and Spanish mackerel using live bait. With a motivated group of anglers onboard, I was ready to make some fishing memories!

#### Setting Off

As my clients boarded the boat, their enthusiasm was palpable. After a quick briefing on our strategy for the day, we loaded up with gear and prepared our live bait—menhaden, which are always a favorite for attracting kings and Spanish. With everything in place, we cast off from the marina, eager to see what the day had in store.

#### Trolling for Kings and Spanish Mackerel

Once we reached our fishing grounds, I explained our slow trolling technique and how to properly present the live bait. Everyone was eager to cast their lines and get started. We set up our lines and began the slow troll, scanning the waters for any signs of action.

It wasn’t long before we started to see some movement. The first rod went off, and the reel screamed as line peeled off quickly. One of my clients jumped into action, grabbing the rod as excitement filled the air. After a spirited battle, we brought in a stunning 26-pound king mackerel! It was a fantastic catch, and we celebrated with photos and cheers.

#### A Spanish Mackerel Bonanza

With the adrenaline still pumping from the king mackerel catch, we continued our slow trolling, eager to see what else we could reel in. Shortly after, the lines began to dance again as we hooked into several Spanish mackerel. Their acrobatic jumps and quick runs made for thrilling fights, and my clients were having a blast.

One client managed to hook into a particularly large Spanish mackerel, and the excitement was contagious. It was a fierce battle, and after some tense moments, we successfully brought the big Spanish aboard. The smiles on everyone’s faces were priceless as we captured the moment with a few photos.

#### Wrapping Up the Day

With our cooler filling up and spirits high, we made one last push for more action. Although we didn’t hook into any more big ones, we enjoyed the final moments of our trip, soaking in the sun and the thrill of the day.

As we made our way back to the marina, the sunset painted the sky in beautiful hues, and my clients left with smiles, a cooler full of fish—including that impressive 26-pound king mackerel—and memories that would last a lifetime.

Reflecting on the day, I felt grateful for the opportunity to share such an exciting experience with my clients. Fishing is about more than just the catch; it’s about the connections made and the joy shared on the water.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable nearshore fishing adventure, I invite you to join me. You never know what kind of excitement awaits just beyond the horizon! 🎣🌊✨
